Student Machine Shop & MakerSpace

Our Student Machine Shop and MakerSpace allow students in the Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering programs to access technical equipment. These facilities are also open to Mechanical Engineering faculty and staff.

Student Machine Shop

Location: KAIS 1190

The Department of Mechanical Engineering Student Machine Shop features fully supervised, daily open hours so that eligible users can safely work on their projects, receive instruction and guidance on best practices for tool and equipment use and can receive design advice for their project work.

The facility consists of a 300 square-metre space containing conventional milling, drilling, sawing and turning equipment.

Student MakerSpace

Location: KAIS 1180N

The MakerSpace is an unsupervised 24/7 access self-serve facility containing fabrication equipment such as:

  • an abrasive water-jet cutter
  • 3D printers
  • sheet metal brake
  • sheet metal shear
  • light tools for assembly and fabrication
  • equipment for wood and plastics fabrication
